Thiago Silva not leaving Paris Saint-Germain, says agent
Paulo Tonietto, Thiago Silva’s agent, has insisted that the Brazil international will not leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer amid reported interest from Barcelona.....

The Liga champions have supposedly earmarked the centre-back as the perfect addition to their defence ahead of the 2013-14 campaign, but his representative has stressed that the 28-year-old’s future is at PSG.

"Have you seen a proposal from Barca? Well, neither have I... There would be a lot of interest if PSG were willing to sell, but that would be a huge surprise to me. His future lies at Paris Saint-Germain," he told L’Equipe.

"He signed a contract here just one year ago and it is out of the question that he leaves. That's all there is to it.

"He would be disappointed if [Carlo] Ancelotti left PSG, but his future does not depend on Ancelotti."

Thiago Silva has a contract with the Ligue 1 champions until June 2017.

Cruyff advises Vilanova to step down as coach of Barcelona

Posted on 6:17 AM by Unknown
Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff, has advised current coach of the club, Tito Vilanova, to resign because of his personal health.

The 44-year-old had an operation in 2011 to remove a tumour, but suffered a relapse in December 2012, which meant he missed several months of the 2012/2013 campaign.

He made his return in April 2013 and led Barca to the La Liga title, but Cruyff feels he should stay away from the game for now. "In his condition it's not very advisable to continue as a coach. I had a heart operation myself…

can you be in charge of Barca if you aren't 100 per cent?" the former Camp Nou coach told Catalunya Radio.

"I'd tell Tito to look after himself. He's not as strong and experienced as Pep Guardiola. He has a massive problem in the form of his illness and his health comes first."

Cruyff also spoke on Jose Mourinho, who would be leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season, stating that he was not impressed by the work the Portuguese has done in his three seasons in charge. "With the behaviour he showed nothing could be done really.

If you start a fight with your best player, that's not right. I think he went too far. "He's not guilty just right now, but has been for two or three years. He's not done Madrid any favours."

Arsenal should be winning trophies, not celebrating a top four place – Thierry Henry

Posted on 6:11 AM by Unknown
Thierry Henry says he believes Arsenal were celebrating at St. James Park, because they pipped Tottenham Hotspurs to a top- four finish and not because they qualified for the Champions League...

The Gunners defeated Newcastle 1-0 and although Gareth Bale struck in the final minute to give Spurs victory over Sunderland, it was the Henry's former team that qualified for Europe's elite competition.

However, the Red Bulls striker made it clear that they should be winning trophies and Champions League should be the minimum requirement.

"For me as a fan or if I was a player at Arsenal, finishing in the top four would have been normal," Henry told Sky Sports.

"We saved our season and that was it because you always want to win and I know people go on about the pictures and all of this celebration.

"But I can tell you I think it was more the fact that for any Arsenal player, when you really feel the shirt and really play for the club, putting Tottenham out of the top four, and I really do hope that's what they were celebrating about.

"Because that is the only thing you can celebrate about. If you are an Arsenal man through-and-through that is like winning something for me.

And I also said it when we did it to them in 2006 that it wasn't the fact we qualified for the Champions League, it is because we kicked them out of it and we went in." Wenger has secured Champions League qualification for 16 consecutive years and Henry says it would be strange the day he decides to leave the Emirates.

"For me it's very difficult for me to see Arsenal play, one day, without Arsene on the bench," he admitted.

"Whatever, after, people can say 'oh yeah they won, they didn't win' but for me there I will see Arsenal play without Arsene on the bench, its going to be weird.

"So I'd just love to have him there all the time. We all know that's not going to happen, one day he's going to have to go. But it will be hard as he's not thinking of leaving one day. It will happen eventually, we all know it, but I don't see it."

The Spanish boss was keen to add the 21- year-old Brazilian forward, who will now join his former team, Barcelona, after the Catalans agreed a €28 million move.

Bayern then quickly moved to activate Gotze's €37 million release clause. "Guardiola had certain ideas to bring in a young Brazilian player [Neymar]," Hoeness said while speaking at an IDG Communications Media AG gathering.

"But we have had a number of bad experiences with young Brazilians in the past. If you consider signing someone who costs €20-30 million or even more, it is a difficult decision. We all know what happened with Breno… "So we started looking for a similar player and eventually signed Mario Gotze."

Posted on 6:02 AM by Unknown
Gareth Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnett, has invited Real Madrid to open negotiations for his client, admitting that they would be interested in speaking with the Spanish giants....

Madrid are understood to be ready to bid for the Welsh winger, especially after they lost out to Barcelona in the race to sign Brazilian forward Neymar.

"If someone like Mr Perez was interested in Bale it would be a great honour. And we would listen," Barnett told Spanish TV show 'Futboleros'.

"We're not speaking to anybody… Bale is better than Neymar. He's proved himself better than Neymar. He's proved himself in the best league in the world.

"I would hope that any club who wants him, wants him not because they lost Neymar. I would think he'd have to be their first choice. Luiz Suarez  recognized to want a shift away from Liverpool after being engaged in several questionable occurrences while at Anfield, is optimistic the British club will let him go cheaply.....This would likely be around €25m plus one of Madrid’s young star shifting in the other, with Reds’ manager Brendan Rodgers
believed to be enthusiastic about either Jese or Alvaro Morata, although the Spaniards would maintain an choice to buy both strikers returning.Los Blancos strategy to provide 26-year-old Suarez a four-year cope at the Santiago Bernabeu but they could experience delayed competitors from Serie A, with Juventus, Inter and Napoli all considered to be enthusiastic about the striker.

Nonetheless, his in-laws reside in Castelldefels, 20 kilometers to the south-west of Barcelona and he sometimes goes to evade the British winter, so he would be particularly responsive to a shift to La Liga.Suarez signed up with Liverpool from Ajax before the begin of the 2010-11 season and was second-highest scorer in last year's Premier League with 23 goals, three behind van Persie.

With french club Monaco ready to lure Falcao with a record fee of about £51.3m and Porto's Wayne Rodríguez and Joao Moutinho already in the bag, Chelsae centre-half Branislav Ivanovic is next on the record of money-bags Monaco. The recently marketed Ligue 1 side's European proprietor Dmitry Rybolovlev is, as we talk, moistening his thumbs and planning to remove off £25m in used tenners, but inbound Chelsea administrator José Mourinho isn't fascinated.

Jose Mounrinho is however, enthusiastic about maintaining the solutions of Micheal Essien at Stamford Bridge, having had the Ghanaian midfielder on loan at Real Madrid for the year just gone. He also desires to carry Vitesse Arnhem's Netherlands Under-21 box-to-box midfielder Marco van Ginkel to London, uk. And with his Chelsea agreement due to end next 30 days after a year invested exiled to practice with the young players, Chelsea winger Florent Malouda will revive his profession at Lyon.

Napoli striker and all around Uruguayan Edinson Cavani covers Real's desired record, but his £52m signing stipulation indicates the Spanish Team may try to get Luis Suárez away from Liverpool instead, reviews The Sun.Real Madrid also want Gareth Bale and they are ready to provide £65m so as to test the mettle of Tottenham chief director Daniel Levy. Meanwhile in France, some speculations says that Cavani will go to Manchester City, while their news-stand competitors Tuttosport says Juventus still want

Manchester city striker Carlos Tevez and are also planning to destroy Arsenal's initiatives to carry Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic to London, uk. Lyon midfielder Clément Grenier is France, 22 and obviously desired by Arsenal. And PSG administrator Carlo Ancelotti, himself considered to be in range to take over from Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, has added icy cool the water over rumours indicating that super starr Zlatan Ibrahimovic has requested to keep the France winners because he overlooks France and wants to come back to Juventus. "This is not real, he did not ask to keep the team," harrumphed the French. "Our connection is excellent, as it is with other players." So
 now you know.

I can only play for Barca, says Messi

Posted on 6:10 AM by Unknown
Argentine football star Lionel Messi said Monday he could not play for any team other than Barcelona, where he has been since the age of 13...

"I cannot play with any team other than Barcelona," he told reporters in Qatar, where he took part in a charity event. But he added in answering a question about a possible transfer that he "did not know what the future hides."

Messi joined Barcelona when he was still just 13 and climbed through the Catalans' ranks, making his first team debut at just 17.

He has gone on to win the Champions League three times with the Spanish giants as well as La Liga six times, and two Spanish Cups.

On top of that he has been named world player of the year four times in a row. Despite all his personal accolades, Messi refused to accept he is indispensible to Barca, insisting, according to a translation into Arabic: "I am part of a group, and we all work to help each other." Whilst in Doha, Messi launched a joint programme between his charity organisation and Qatari telecommunication company Ooredoo, aimed at helping children in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.

“Don’t call me boss again” – Ferguson warns United players

Posted on 6:04 AM by Unknown
After Sir Alex Ferguson took charge of his final Manchester United game, he told his players not to address him as 'boss' anymore...

It is understood that the 71-year-old made the remarks in his speech, shortly before he announced his retirement, as he tries to drum up support for incoming manager, David Moyes. "You've been fantastic servants to me.

We've achieved some great things,' Ferguson told his players, reports The Sun. "And if all that we've done together means anything to you, there's just one thing I'd ask of you all.

"After I've gone and we bump into each other, I don't want to hear you call me Boss ever again. "Call me anything but that. Call me whatever you've called me behind my back for years — but just not Boss. "You'll have a new boss by then and he's the only one you should call that." Moyes reported at United's Carrington training ground on Monday by 9am, as he seeks to ease into his new job.

Atletico Madrid confirm they will allow Falcao leave

Posted on 6:00 AM by Unknown
Atletico Madrid have stated that they would not stand in Radamel Falcao's way, if the striker decides to leave the club this summer.

The Colombian has been strongly linked with Ligue 2 winners, Monaco and Chelsea in the past few months, after another impressive season with the Spanish side, in which he scored 34 goals in all competitions...

It is also understood that Falcao has a £54million buy-out clause in his contract and the club's general manager Miguel Angel Gil Marin said: 'Before the start of the season we talked with [Falcao] and we promised him if he keeps the same performance and he helps us to arrive to the Uefa Champions League next season, Atletico will help you.

"Every decision he will take, Atletico will be with him." Marin was also bullish about finding the right replacement for the red-hot frontman, pointing out that the club has been able to find good strikers in the market.

"Atletico knows how to change the good striker – Fernando Torres, [Diego] Forlan, [Sergio] Aguero, now Falcao," he added. "I don't know exactly which will be the next one, but you can be sure Atletico will have a strong team next season." The 27-year-old arrived from Porto two seasons ago for £35million.

PSG President Rejects Ancelotti’s Real Madrid Move

Posted on 5:47 AM by Unknown
Paris St Germain coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has asked to leave for Madrid but the club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi says the Italian-born coach must respect his contract with the French club.....

Ancelotti told the club he wants to leave at the end of the season after leading the team to their first French league title in 19 years.

Al-khelaifi said he had a meeting with Ancelotti on his request to leave PSG and go ahead to coach Spanish side Real Madrid but he was very clear with Ancelotti on the move by reminding him that he still has a year to go in his contract with PSG.

Al-khelaifi said it is not the problem of the French club but the problem of Ancelotti if he goes against the agreed contract and heads to Real Madrid because contracts have to be respected.

He adds that PSG wants to keep him and there's a proposition to further extend his contract for another year, but if he still wants to leave after the remaining one year then he can leave.

"It's his problem, it is not our problem because it is in his contract and everyone has to respect contracts. We want to keep him and we also proposed to renew the contract for another year, but he can leave."

Ancelotti joined PSG, who are owned by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), in December 2011, leading them to their first French league title since 1994 last weekend. The 53-year-old won league titles with PSG, AC Milan and Chelsea, and also took the Italian club to the Champions League title in 2003 and 2007. His contract at PSG was automatically renewed by one year until June next year when the club secured a Champions League spot for next season.

Ferguson wins managers’ award

Outgoing Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson heads into retirement with the Premier League manager of the year award....

Ferguson picked up the League Manager Association's honour on Monday. At the reception the 71-year-old said he was relieved celebrations to mark his retirement were over.

"It has been overwhelming," he told the awards dinner in London 24 hours after his last match in charge of United, Sunday's 5-5 draw at West Brom.

"The club has been fantastic and congratulations to West Brom with the way they handled yesterday. In a way I am glad it is all over now – because it has been a very hard week. "I think (West Brom manager) Steve Clarke should get an award because anyone who scores five against United deserves it."

Premier League team of the season

Posted on 5:38 AM by Unknown
Premier League fans have been treated to dazzling displays from some of the world's best players over the last nine months...

And with the season at an end, AFP London Sports Desk unveils its team of the year:

GOALKEEPER Asmir Begovic (Stoke/BIH) The £15 million-rated Bosnian underlined why the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with a close- season move for him as he produced a series of fine performances, played all 38 league games and managed to keep 12 clean-sheets in a struggling side.

DEFENDERS Pablo Zabaleta (Man City/ARG) In a season of underachievement at Eastlands, the Argentina right-back was one of the few to emerge with any credit. His muscular approach frustrated many wingers and he also found time to charge forward to good effect.

Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd/ENG) The 34-year-old's return to form defied critics who claimed he no longer had the pace to play at the highest level. Finally pain-free thanks to an intricate fitness programme, the centre-back may have snubbed an England recall but he was an assured presence as United romped to the title.

Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham/BEL) Relatively unheralded when he arrived from Ajax last year, the versatile Belgian has emerged as one of the best defenders in the league.

Capable of filling in at full-back, he shone brightest at centre-back and chipped in with six valuable goals.

Leighton Baines (Everton/ENG) Long regarded as a key component of Everton's back-four, the dynamic left- back enjoyed the best season of his career and also impressed for England. Could follow David Moyes to Manchester United if the departing Toffees boss gets his way.

MIDFIELDERS Juan Mata (Chelsea/ESP) The Spaniard thrived as the Blues played a more fluid style designed to showcase Mata's talents.

As well as an eye for a killer pass, Mata, who netted 20 times this term, also displayed stamina as he featured in 66 of Chelsea's 69 matches during a marathon campaign that brought third place and Europa League glory.

Michael Carrick (Man Utd/ENG) After spending much of his time at Old Trafford as the forgotten man in United's midfield, Carrick finally took centre-stage with the kind of influential displays his admirers have always felt him capable of.

The 31-year-old's smooth passing and astute reading of the game were pivotal to United's title success, especially given the erratic form of his fellow midfielders.

Santi Cazorla (Arsenal/ESP) While many of Arsene Wenger's recent overseas signings have failed to adapt to the Premier League, there was no questioning the impact of the diminutive Spaniard following his £15 million move from Malaga.

Whether playing wide or in a more central role, the 28-year-old was at the heart of all Arsenal's best moments, scoring 12 times including a hat-trick at Reading, as they finished the season strongly and took fourth place.

Gareth Bale (Tottenham/WAL) Almost single-handedly kept his team in the race to qualify for the Champions League with a series of brilliant displays and jaw-dropping goals that earned him both the Players' and Football Writers' Player of the Year awards.

The Wales winger was granted more freedom to play in-field by Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas and he responded with 26 goals, many of them long-range strikes and none more remarkable than the last-minute winner against West Ham that illuminated a dank night at Upton Park in February.

FORWARDS Michu (Swansea/ESP) Unquestionably the bargain of the season, Michu, who cost just £2 million from Rayo Vallecano, announced his arrival in the Premier League with two goals on his debut in a 5-0 win at QPR and never looked back.

The Spaniard ended the season with 22 goals, including one at Wembley as Swansea beat Bradford 5-0 in the League Cup final to win the first major trophy in their 100-year history. Robin van Persie (Man Utd/NED) After losing the title on goal difference last season, United boss Alex Ferguson responded by prising the Dutch star away from Arsenal just as champions Manchester City were prepared to pounce and in the process effectively regained the Premier League crown before a ball was even kicked.

The £24 million deal revitalised United as van Persie scored on his Old Trafford debut against Fulham, netted a hat-trick in his third match at Southampton and went on to finish as the league's top scorer with 26 goals. No wonder Ferguson hailed him as the most significant signing since his swoop for Eric Cantona.
